The European Economic Community (EEC) was created in 1957, when the Treaty of Rome was signed. It was made up of Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Its main objective was to remove all trade restrictions so that people and goods could circulate freely. It also wanted to coordinate policies on agriculture, trade and transport.
